Speaking on Citizen TV's 'The Big Question' with Hussein Mohammed on Tuesday night, Ruto said that he is one of the shareholders of Weston Hotel, but denied it had anything to do with the Lang'ata Primary School land grabbing.
He said that the company that claimed and still claim the playground is actually in court, and it was very different from his hotel.
His admission was probably the right move, because a few seconds later, Citizen played a clip of the deputy president touring the hotel during its construction. It was more of an ambush.
The confession also comes as a surprise because during the height of the saga, lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi categorically stated that Ruto is not a shareholder or a director.
Speaking to the Nation at that time, the lawyer said, “He (Deputy President) is neither a shareholder nor a director of Weston Hotel. It is a popular belief that he is the owner but that is not true. The hotel is run by a man called Osiero who is the director and main shareholder.”
He was believed to be representing the hotel, and he repeated the same on Twitter.
On the same interview, Ruto spoke about the recent Moi Referral Hospital scandal, saying it is a scheme by the opposition to bring him down.
Hussein asked him what he thought of the different names Kenyans on Social media call him, among them Land grabber and Private developer, to which Ruto replied that we should not take social media seriously.
He pointed out last week's Moody Awori's 'murder' as an example, and in an indirect attack at Peter Kenneth, talked of how politicians who thought they had the numbers because of social media ended up beaten badly.
